Support Ministries The Malama Committee includes ushers and greeters for the Eucharist, as well as organizers of St. John’s famous weekly refreshments, offered in Ho‘okano Hall after each Sunday’s service. Ushers and greeters welcome worshipers as they enter, show them to pews, and make sure they have the worship and music materials; they also supervise the collection of the offering, and help put away the hymnals and worship booklets and straighten up the church after the service. In Ho‘okano Hall, Malama Committee members prepare and set out refreshments, clean up the kitchen, and make sure there are volunteers to provide refreshments each week. The Stewardship Committee encourages and organizes the sharing of time, talent, and treasure in support of all St. John’s ministries. Besides the annual pledge campaign, through which members promise to provide monetary support throughout the year, this committee heads up special fundraising events such as St. John’s famous annual lū‘au, our now annual “Taste of St. John’s” celebration and silent auction, as well as social gatherings like St. John’s ‘Ohana Reunion. St. John’s Junior Wardens head up the maintenance and care of buildings and grounds. They organize and schedule periodic “Workdays” during which St. John’s members gather to clean, repair, paint, decorate, and maintain the church, hall, and surroundings. Like Sundays, workdays usually include a wonderful lunch and time to enjoy each other’s company as we work together. |
