WORSHIP: HAWAIIAN SUNDAYS

St. John's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church continues to honor its Hawaiian heritage by singing hymns in Hawaiian as well as English, by incorporating Hawaiian values into all the church's activities, and by conducting the Holy Eucharist partly or completely in the Hawaiian language several times a year. These services honor and commemorate the lives of our ali'i.

These four Sunday services in 2017 will be conducted almost entirely in Hawaiian:

March 26 – the birthday of Prince Kuhio
June 11 – the birthday of King Kamehameha I
September 3 – the birthday of Queen Lili'uokalani
November 26 – the Feast of the Patrons (King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma)

These eight Sunday services in 2017 will be conducted partially in Hawaiian and partially in English:

January 1 – the birthday of Queen Emma
February 12 – the birthday of Kamehameha IV
May 21 – the baptism & confirmation of Queen Lili'uokalani
August 27 – the baptism of Prince Albert
October 15 – the birthday of Princess Ka'iulani
November 19 – the birthday of King Kalakaua
December 10 – the birthday of Kamehameha V
December 31 – the birthday of Kapi'olani
